The reason we don't talk about these things is that our society has bought deeply into the myth of the holy pure mother resplendent in her "natural" maternal instinct. Any conversations that address reality quickly come into conflict with this very constraining myth. Rejecting the myth will upset much of our social construct and that scares people.
